What is ApeSwap?

ApeSwap is a multi-purpose DeFi platform that you can use for Yield Farming and Staking. The platform is built on top of the Binance Smart Chain and has branched out from PancakeSwap.

For those of you who don't know what PancakeSwap is, this is a decentralized exchange to exchange BEP-20 tokens. This platform is very similar to Uniswap and SushiSwap because it is also built on the same principles as all automated market makers (AMMs). We have written an    article    about it that covers the platform in detail and guides you on how you can use it. Feel free to check it out if you want to know more about it.

ApeSwap works the same way because it is also an    automated marketplace maker   . For those of you who don't know what an auto marketer is, tie in because this will be a long explanation.

To understand AMM, we need to start by looking at how traditional trade works.

Traditionally, trade relied on humans creating order books and entering prices in them. Because order books are public, they are accessible to all merchants on the platform. Among these traders there will be some who are willing to make a purchase at the price asked by the seller. They can then place an offer and make a purchase.

But what if no merchant agrees to buy the product at the price quoted by the seller? When that happens, there is a mismatch between the expectations of buyers and sellers. And ideally, no trade should take place in this case - unless one of the parties decides to compromise.

But in reality, everyone is looking for profit - be it a buyer or a seller. That is why someone who is trying to sell something wants to sell it at the highest possible price. And someone who wants to buy something definitely wants to buy it at the lowest possible price. With no party willing to give in, there will be no market.

This creates a need for traders who are willing to buy the product at the price asked by the seller. And in traditional markets, this role is played by market makers.

Market makers in traditional markets are traders who only trade certain goods but are ready to buy or sell those goods at any price. This helps them trade with buyers who are looking for low prices for those items as well as sellers who are looking for high prices for them.

Although this sounds like the perfect strategy, technology has evolved rapidly. And not using it to reform the way we trade would be foolish. So the developers in the DeFi space created an Automated Market Maker that works with the help of a line of code called a smart contract to set a price for all cryptocurrencies traded on the platform. And because we use automation for that, users get prices in the market at all times.

Returning to ApeSwap, this platform is built on top of the Binance Smart Chain. If you don't know what Binance Smart Chain is, maybe now is the right time for you to find out.

Binance Smart Chain (BSC) is a blockchain developed by Binance that runs in parallel with Binance Chain. It has some functions that Binance Chain does not have (such as smart contracts) which makes it great for developers looking for a new blockchain.

We all know that Ethereum has high GAS costs that cut your profits. And that's not the only problem people face on the platform. Because there are so many things going on in the Ethereum blockchain, there are a lot of network congestion. For both these reasons and more, many developers are looking for an alternative blockchain to build their DApps.

And that's where BSC shines. Being relatively new, network congestion in the blockchain is low. In addition, it does not cost much to conduct transactions on the platform. It is even compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). So if you feel comfortable working on EVM, you can easily port your DApps to BSC.

The fact that this runs as an independent blockchain and not as an off-chain scalability solution for Binance Chain inspires trust. That is, if in the future, Binance Chain is offline for some reason, BSC will not be affected by it. This will work as if nothing had ever happened to the Binance Chain. Even so, both, more or less, have the same design.

Once you're on the ApeSwap platform, you'll realize that you need $ BANANA - and you need that much. One way to do this is to buy lots of $ BANANAS. But that is something you can do only if you have a lot of money to set aside. What if you don't have that much money?

In this case, you can try planting more $ BANANA. And there are many opportunities for you to do so on the platform. In the past, when the platform had just started, there were 5 farms, namely BANANA / BNB, BANANA / BUSD, BNB / BUSD, BTC / BNB, and ETH / BNB. The platform has added many new farms for well -known projects as well as new partners.

How do I use ApeSwap?

Using ApeSwap is pretty easy. All you need to do is find a wallet that is compatible with Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and head to ApeSwap.Finance. 

Once there, you can choose to exchange, stake, or participate in liquidity pools. When you choose to do so, you will be asked to unlock your wallet. 

When you click "Unlock Wallet", you'll be asked to choose among the various supported wallets. Once you select your wallet and connect it with ApeSwap, you are ready to go!

What is the Early Monkey Show?

Initial Ape Offering (IAO) is a fundraising activity used by ApeSwap to launch new tokens and bring liquidity to those tokens. To participate in the IAO, you need a BANANA-BNB LP token.

To get BANANA-BNB LP tokens, all you need to do is add some of your BANANA and BNB tokens to the liquidity pool. After doing so, you will get a BANANA-BNB LP token instead.

Finding an IAO to participate in is also fairly easy. All you have to do is go to ApeSwap.Finance/IAO and see the various IAOs out there. If you find a running IAO that you want to join, you can use your BANANA-BNB LP token to purchase an IAO token.

What is a Non-Fungible Monkey?

Non-Fungible Apes (or NFAs) are a group of 1,000 unique, rare, immutable digital apes, created cryptographically. Each monkey is created by characterizing a string (such as "Strong Monkey") to randomly generate a set of 6 characteristics: Base, Face, Frame, Mouth, Eyes, and Top.

Each characteristic has a different likelihood of appearing in each generation of apes, making some characteristics far more rare than others. For example, only 32 monkeys have laser eyes and only 107 monkeys have sunglasses. Each monkey has a score generated based on the combined scarcity of its characteristics (more details on scarcity can be seen in the    Github repo   ).

We then categorized the scores into one of five different levels to determine overall scarcity. The scarcity levels are as follows:

• Common Chimpanzee:    Level 1 (500 NFA) - Most common
• Native Orangutan:    Tier 2 (250 NFA)
• Alluring Monkeys:    Level 3 (150 NFA)
• Major Primates:    Level 4 (70 NFA)
• Magic Monkeys:    Tier 5 (30 NFA) - Most rare
